Maths

Maths is a core subject which is studied by every pupil in the Academy from S1 to S6. At Annan Academy our aim is to raise pupils’ aspirations to allow them to become successful adults. Mathematics develops computational skills, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. The theory, discipline, and techniques taught in mathematics are especially important in today's society.
The mathematics department will provide pupils with exciting, relevant and challenging lessons, delivered by highly trained and dedicated staff. Pupils will understand the underlying principles of the mathematics they learn, making links and developing reasoning skills and logical thinking. They will become independent learners who make choices and find their own solutions to a problem. As a department we will encourage all pupils to be confident learners and we will challenge them in every lesson.
All teachers will develop interesting and effective teaching ideas and resources in every lesson and will promote mathematics across the Academy. Every teacher is committed to delivering a personalised curriculum in which every pupil learns, progresses and achieves.
